CRISIL data says Indian homecooked vegetarian food cost climbed up more than non-vegetarian food

In September 2026, the cost of vegetarian and non-vegetarian thalis in India rose significantly compared to the previous year. Higher prices of staples such as onions, rice, and cooking oil contributed to these increased costs. The rise in onion prices reached 89% year-on-year due to supply constraints and adverse weather conditions. Experts predict that food prices may remain elevated despite possible fresh crop arrivals later in the season.
